Resident

Grey Heron is the biggest heron in Japan. Flying form is rather magnificent.  Common resident at Asakawa River, the bird rarely groups together. At Asakawa main stream, observation records of the species have been increasing in the 2000s.
Most of the upperparts is blue-grey with its underparts white. Long crest on nape except immatures. In breeding season, bill, eyes and legs turn reddish in color.
