No.032 Eastern Spot-billed Duck Anas zonorhyncha L=60cm Rank : 1
Resident

The most common resident duck in the mainstream and armlets of Asakawa River. During the breeding season, we often see parents leading their chicks in a stream. Although many other male ducks have brighter plumages than females, both sexes of this species are alike with inconspicuous brown plumage.

According to the results of our monthly bird count, the number of various ducks in the mainstream of Asakawa River, including this species, has been decreasing since the mid-1990fs, although the cause has not yet been determined.
