The bird is the National Bird of Japan. With heart-shaped scarlet wattles on face and glossy dark green head and underparts, Male stands out wherever it is like this picture. On the other hand, Femalefs plumage is of somber colour protecting the bird in dried-up grass. In Asakawa River Basin, we can find the bird in riverbeds and city parks like Komiya Park. @ Sometimes the bird reveals its presence with a loud call "ko-KOK".@
