No.203 Little Ringed Plover Charadrius dubius

Rank : 2
Summer Visitor
Smallest plover in Japan with its distinctive yellow eye-ring. Common summer visitor in the midstream of Asakawa River coming in March, and after breeding and raising, leaves for the south around August. In the downstream of Asakawa River, however, its stay is about one month later than the above in midstream. Our record shows that some of the species pass the winter here. Often seen foraging at dry riverbed of sluggish streams. During breeding season, the species flies around above the stream with a loud call. Breeds on gravels of dry riverbed.
