Common resident throughout Asakawa River Basin. Usually seen alone or in a small group of several birds, not in large numbers like domestic pigeons. Repeats a diagnostic call "Deh deh, po po" during breeding period. Scaly scapulars, blackish brown with rufous edges and grey striped patch on the back of neck are diagnostic. Head, neck, and underparts brownish to pinkish grey.
