No.388 Eurasian Wryneck Jynx torquilla

L=17cm

Rank : 4
Winter Visitor

Although the species belongs to Picidae family, it perches more like a passerine than a woodpecker. Plumage mottled in soft shades of brown and grey, and difficult to find when it perches on a deadwood. Observed almost annually in Asakawa River basin, but the number of observation records, mostly during autumn and winter, is limited here.
