No.575 Japanese Wagtail Motacilla grandis

L=21cm

Rank : 1
Resident

Ancient Japanese wagtail. Seen all year round like White Wagtail, but the species prefers waterfs edge on rivers, ponds and lakes.@Call: A thickly Jujun, Jujun, different from White Wagtailfs Chuchun, Chuchun. Song in breeding season is more complex.@

While White Wagtailfs ear coverts are white, those of this species are black: a diagnostic mark. Although the species is endemic to Japan, some vagrant birds are, we understand, reported in Taiwan and Eastern China.
