Common resident in rocky seashores, the bird has also been observed in the urban district of Asakawa River basin.@As the birdfs breeding has recently been confirmed in this area, it may be necessary to review its classification as gwinter visitorhhere. Male and female differ in appearance: Male: Head, breast, back, and rump slate blue and underparts chestnut. Female: Grey brown, scaly dark yellow below.
