The bird enjoys a high popularity as a representative summer bird along with Blue-and-white Flycatcher. Male has a superb combination of black, orange, yellow, and white (patch on wing) in its plumage, while Femalefs plumage is somber brownish grey.
Melodious warble with repeated whistling notes. In the "wildbird playing cards" recently made by our Society, the bird is referred to as "bright orange Narcissus Flycatcher playing a piccolo solo in a fresh green mountain."
According to our general survey of summer birds, sightings of the bird have almost consistently been increasing in Asakawa River basin. First sighting of the bird in Asakawa River basin is generally mid-April to late-April every year.
