Introduced (Resident)

Native to southern part of China, the species is fairly common in Asakawa River basin. The size is about the same as sparrow; with its red bill, yellow-orange throat, yellow and red spots on wings, it may look like a southern bird. Observed in various places: near Mt. Takao, parks on hilly areas like Komiya Park, and near private houses. In some cases, they form a flock of several dozen and move around.  

According to Database of Invasive Species by National Institute for Environmental Studies, the species became colonized in Kobe in 1931, and after 1980 in other areas. Distribution is reported to cover almost all areas from central Honshu southward.
